This ain't a hipster party, Bruh.

Hello my fellow musical aficionados.  Today I feel the need to express my anger about the youth of America and the terrible direction that most of them seem to be heading.  I, of course, am referring to "Hipsterism".  Unless you've been living under a rock for the past half decade, I'm sure you've noticed an increase of skinny jeaned, Buddy Holly bespectacled(most often non prescription), scarf and beanie wearing, mustachioed assholes wandering around your city.(please note that I have nothing against Buddy Holly or Skateboarding...or beanies and scarves for that matter.)
They are usually young...ranging 13 to 30ish and can be found discussing current events and world issues around a couple cups of exotic coffee like they are the second coming of Che Guevara.  Not only are they smarter than you, but they are with out a doubt the only informed people on the planet and are way too cool...for everything.

These things are annoying yes, but hey, different strokes for different folks.  People can do what they want. What really bothers me about this new fad group of posers is what they are doing with what I hold most dear. Music. I know what you're thinking, "But Dane, how can anyone else effect you and the music you enjoy?"  To understand this, you must first understand a Hipsters mind and what makes music worth listening to in their eyes.

In order for a band/artist to be great they must not be on a major label, Independent music only folks. The less people that know about this band or artist the better. A true Hipster's number one rule about music, or anything for that matter, is that in order for it to be good, it has to be "underground" and not yet discovered by the masses which will turn it into mainstream crap and ruin it forever. Which is a conundrum in itself because a Hipster enjoys nothing more than informing some square that the "new" band/artist they just discovered has, in fact, been around for "forever" which usually means 6 months or longer. Also, since that band has found mainstream success, they are "sell outs" and unworthy of their time. If you aren't aware by now, basically, all the music you like sucks, you fascist puppet.  This annoys me to no end.  Let me listen to what I want.  I don't care if you heard it first or if they have been around for 5 yrs already.  What are you going to tell your kids when they ask you,  "Hey Mom/Dad have you ever heard of this band called, "The Beatles".  "Kid, that's old news."  Fuck you for doing that, ruining someone else's experience of a musician or band because you are more concerned about making sure everyone is aware you heard it first, when it was worth a shit.  Dick move dude/chick, dick move.

While I rant and rave about these people, a part of me can't help but feel sorry for them. You see, I too understand what a great feeling it is to have something that no one else does. The pride you feel when you find something great, whether it be an article clothing, music, a book etc...and then after some time passes other people seem to catch on. You see someone wearing your favorite shirt, people ask if you have "listened to this" or "read that". You try to explain to them that you were actually the first one and should be given credit if not applauded for starting this tiny revolution...but no one cares.  And, just like that, that special thing you had is gone. It no longer holds the power it once did when it was yours and yours alone. This is what is inevitably going to happen to the whole Hipster culture. They are becoming what they have always claimed to be against.  The mainstream.  People are wearing their clothes, reading their books and playing their music on the radio. Gotta love the Irony.

I guess what I'm trying to say is this. Music, much like Religion, is personal.  To a lot of people its part of what defines them as a person. It can not be taken from you and it can not be controlled.  It is complete freedom. .So dear Hipsters.  Do what you want, listen to what you want and most importantly be who you want.  Just spare us your opinionated babbling,  just like my own opinion I've expressed on this blog, no one cares what you think or have to say.  After all, you look ridiculous.  How can we take you seriously?
